ARIZONA

This is the beautiful Grand Canyon in Northern Arizona. The mighty Colorado River has been carving this amazing specimen of geology for millions of years. It actually cut all these channels over the years until it looks as you see it today. I visited Arizona in the summer of 2004, on the way to Las Vegas and California.

This image is of the Grand Canyon. The juxtaposition of clouds, cloud shadows and topography makes for an impressive image!
This image shows just how deep the Grand Canyon is. I was standing on the Northern cliffs when I took this image, and I was very dry. At the very bottom, you can barely see the ranger station that visitors can reach by a very gruelling walkway that is not for the timid. At the age of 8, I walked nearly half way down.
This image very effectively shows the scale of the Grand Canyon and how dangerous it can be to tourists. There are few fences to keep tourists away from the edges. You can literally sit on the edge of the Grand Canyon! These two boys were pretty close to the edge!
This is an amazing image of how the clouds can be artistic! The light and dark patches really add a nuance to the Grand Canyon.
This image really shows the topography of the Grand Canyon.
This image excellently demonstrates the sheer immensity of the Grand Canyon! The two people in the image are dwarfed by the huge cliffs and hills.
This is another image of the artistic lights and darks of the Grand Canyon caused by the clouds.
This is an image of a huge cliff of the Grand Canyon. How huge is this cliff? Those colourful dots at the top of the cliff are actually tourists! Look how small they look compared to the amazing strata!
This image demonstrates the canyon aspect of the Grand Canyon. It actually looks like a great crack in the Earth, but it is really an eroded channel that was slowly carved by the Colorado river.
This looks like a great bend in the Colorado River that existed millions of years ago. Now, it is a great cliff with varied plant life, but mostly scrub brush.
This image excellently demonstrates the canyon aspect of the Grand Canyon. It actually looks like a great crack ripped in the Earth, but it is really an eroded channel that was slowly carved by the Colorado river.

The small ranger station at the bottom can barely be seen within the green patch at the bottom left of this image.
This is another image of the artistic lights and darks of the Grand Canyon caused by the clouds.
This image shows the small trail that leads all the way to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. The trail looks like a very small, thin line.

This is an amazing image of a single hill-top within the Grand Canyon. Imagine at one time this was a small island within the mighty Colorado River. As the river eroded its way lower into the earth, this small tip was left to be further eroded by the wind for the next few million years.
This image shows another trail leading down the mighty slopes of the Grand Canyon. In 1978, I walked down this very trail. I know this because of the meandering way it descends down the cliff.
This is my 1998 Hyundai Elantra sitting near Kingman, Arizona. The temperature on the August 2004 mid-day was 40 degrees Celsius.
This is near Kingman, Arizona. It is a lonely town in the middle of nothing. The Mohave desert is just North of this town. The famous Route 66 goes right through this town, so at least it has some distinction!
This road is near Kingman, Arizona. Not much there but hills and scrub brush.

In the background of this image is Kingman, Arizona. The image encompasses the entire town. Lovely hills in the background though! My best wishes to the "residents" of Tequila Joe's!
