The Chugach mountains can be seen in the background of this image of a beautiful bird that sat on the handrail of a trail through Potter Marsh, just south of Anchorage. The bird was not shy when it came to humans because I got within 3 feet of this creature, and it didn't even flinch. A Japanese couple were also attempting to get images of this same bird 5 minutes earlier. This image is my favourite of all I took of this bird.
This bird literally sat on this railing for 10 minutes, despite several people (including me) taking close-up images of it. I guess it was very photogenic.

Whooooah! I was trying to get an image of the sundogs (halo around the Sun) when this jumbo jet was flying directly overhead on its preparation to land at Anchorage International Airport. I saw this kind of thing every 5 to 10 minutes, and they were quite loud. I thought I could literally touch its landing gear as it passed overhead.
This smaller plane was landing at the Anchorage International Airport when I snapped this image. I was in a parking lot on mile 5 of the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail.
This bird was literally screaming at me while it was in the tree. Another bird of the same species (probably the mate of the first one) was also chirping very loudly at me as I walked along the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail. They followed me for 1/4 mile chirping loudly as I walked.
These fishermen were fishing at about 10 p.m. in Ship Creek. They are most likely fishing for salmon.
A single person walks along the mud flats near the Knik Arm of the Cook Inlet. Before the Great Alaska Earthquake of 1964, this area was 20 feet higher, and was a part of Anchorage. When the Earthquake struck, this whole area (including the houses, etc. were plunged into the water.
A Canadian Tiger Swallowtail butterfly lands on a dandelion. These butterflies were seen everywhere I went in Alaska, including as far north as the Arctic Cricle.
Westchester Lagoon as seen from the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail. The lovely Chugach mountains can be seen in the background.
The sight from Palmer, Alaska (40 miles northeast of Anchorage). The northern portion of the Chugach mountains can be seen in the background. This was the darkest Palmer got in the entire day in early June.
The Alaska State Fairgrounds near Wasilla. They were just beginning to prepare for the Alaska State Fair, which would begin in late August.
