NORAD CATALOGUE NUMBER

The NORAD Catalogue Number is a 5-digit satellite identification number that has been used since the first satellite was launched in 1957. Every unique satellite that has been tracked by NORAD has its own unique NORAD catalogue number.

The International Space Station (ISS) has the NORAD number 25544. The old MIR Space Station had (and still has) the NORAD number 16609. Sputnik 1 has the number 00002. The rocket that launched and deployed the Sputnik I payload into its orbit has the unique distinction of being number 00001.

The NORAD Catalogue Number is sometimes referred to as the NASA #, SCC #, or SSC #.
